Until the weather intervened, Lymm were due to travel to Fylde on 11 January for the first fixture of the 2025 calendar year.  At that point the two clubs were sitting in second and fourth places in the League table, with both enjoying a “purple patch” since Lymm prevailed in the reverse fixture earlier in the season at Crouchley Lane – Lymm having won 10 out of the 11 matches that followed for 50 League points and Fylde 8 out of 10 for 42 points.  However, in the 5 weeks since the postponement, both teams’ fortunes have suffered something of a reversal with Lymm winning 2 out of 4 for 11 points and Fylde 1 out of 5 for 10 points – a recent record that both teams will be eager to reverse on Saturday.  Notwithstanding this the teams still sit in the top echelon of the League, occupying third and fourth places.

This fixture last season produced, arguably, the finish of season with Lymm fly-half Tom Shard eclipsing Jonny Wilkinson’s 2003 RWC Final drop goal to win the match 15-14 with the last kick of the match – a match played in dreadful weather.  As both teams having showed on more than one occasion this season their ability to win matches at the death, Saturday’s encounter promises to be a full 80 minutes of action-packed rugby.

There is no 2nd XV game this weekend, but Lymm Eagles are at home to Macclesfield 3rd XV. KO 2:15pm
