Presidents Welcome
A very warm Welcome to our friends from Billingham having made the long trip down from county Durham, where it is not only their more northerly position in the country they occupy but also their position is very much” North” of Lymm in the Premiership table, as they continue their very impressive start to the season, currently sitting 3rd and 13 points ahead of us.
It is fair to say that so far this season we have been hit hard by injuries, availability and inconsistency, the latter of which has severely impacted by the previous two. This was very much the case during last week’s game at Sandal, where despite the significant number of forced changes we got ourselves into a position to win the game but failed to consistently execute the finishing that had been in evidence the previous week.
Games at Lymm should always be tough for the opposition and I see no reason why today will be any different irrespective of recent form. It was great to see England complete the series of wins last weekend and to come from behind to defeat the “Boks”. Lymm will need all the same qualities on display today and I am sure that the home supporters will do their part in creating a similar atmosphere and positive support, though I accept that gate receipts today may not match the 82,000!
Today also sees the pantomime season well and truly upon us as we go into our 3rd show this evening. If I could please ask that the club house is vacated by 6 pm today to enable the bar team to prepare for tonight’s performance. This means everyone will just have to drink responsibly, but quicker! (Oh yes, they will!!)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Houghton. Roger was an active social member and supporter of the club from the early 1960’s and we send our sincere condolences to his wife June.
On a brighter note, rumour has it that our long-standing friend and “stand in steward” Rick Condo has reached a significant milestone (that begins with a 7!) this week as well as having a cataracts operation last week to make sure he could keep an eye on the panto! Happy Birthday Rick.
