Sadly we must report the death of David Meadowcroft, who died from a heart attack, at his home in Brittany, France on February 14th, aged 79.
David joined Lymm around 1962/63 and was a useful back row forward, gracing the 1st XV for a number of seasons in the early to mid 60s. He was a popular Club member and as well as playing rugby, David took on various committee positions over the years and was always available to help with workgroups where needed. He was Honoury President from 1985 – 1987. He met his first wife, Diane there and they had two daughters, Joanne and Andrea and as a family, they were much involved with the social activity of the Club. Sadly Diane died in the early 1990s.
David eventually remarried to Nicky, who he met on a Turkish sailing trip with his ‘Leafy Lymm Pirates’ pals from the Club and the village. Nicky is half French and after joining him in Lymm for a number of years, they decided to move and live in France around 15 years ago.
Nicky informs us that his death was a complete shock to her. Only two weeks previously he had a full health MOT which he passed with flying colours.
We send our sincere condolances to Nicky and to Joanne, Andrea and their families.
RIP David.
