LYMM Rugby Club is hoping for a Guinness Book World Record when their third XV competes in a forthcoming cup fixture – with a complete squad of dads and lads!
The club’s Third XV, entitled Lymm Eagles, is a happy band of players made up of young players starting out in senior rugby, and those in the twilight of their playing careers.
As such, a cup fixture on Saturday (2/11/24) has allowed Martin Henderson, a veteran player and match organiser, to bring together a unique number of father and son combinations to play in this rugby match.
Of the 28 x man squad, all are father and son, the most number of family ‘combo’s’ ever to don the Lymm Rugby Club shirt, and perhaps something of a national record.
“On Saturday November 2nd we play Wallasey 1st XV in the NOWIRUL Cotton Traders BOWL competition KO 1.15pm, and, at the last count, we have an entire squad of Dads playing with their Lads,’ commented Henderson.
“As a father, and I’m speaking for all my chums, it will be a big thrill to do this and it speaks volumes for the longevity of the old guys, and the ability of their boys, for us all to play together.’
“It would be great to welcome a large crowd to watch this unique occasion in the history of Lymm Rugby Club, and entry is free,’ he concluded.
The Guinness Book of Records has been notified.
