On Saturday 2 November 2024, 14 Dads teamed up with 14 of their sons to create a unique squad of players at Lymm Rugby Club.

Playing in a cup match against Wallasey First XV, the Lymm Eagles, the rugby club’s third XV, fielded Dads who are in the twilight of their playing careers, and their sons who are commencing playing at senior level.

All the boys featured in this photograph came through the Lymm Mini, Junior and Colts Academy, and here was an opportunity to play, en masse, with their fathers.

The rugby on show was a treat to watch at lymm, a grassroots, community rugby club, as they beat a spirited Wallasey team 48 – 24 and progressed into the next round of the cup competition.

Match organiser Martin Henderson was proud of all who got involved. ‘It just seemed like an opportunity not to be missed,’ he said. ‘As Dads we have all watched and supported our boys growing up playing rugby at Lymm and now we have played alongside them. Quite honestly, it has been a massive thrill for all of us!’

‘Also, we have been in touch with the Guinness Book of Records to see if this has ever been done before, in these numbers. We are sending them evidence , including this photo, the team sheet and footage of the match, and await their response. You never know, and we may get another chance to play together in the next round of the cup’, he concluded.
