With the summer (what summer?) now well past the half-way mark, I’m sure that, like me, you are looking forward to the start of the 2024/25 rugby season, which will be Lymm’s second in the National Leagues, Level 4 of the RFU league pyramid structure.
Last season we successfully negotiated the huge step up in playing standards that promotion from the Northern Regional League that had been our “home” since 2010 entailed, achieving our objective to retain our league status. This season, despite the retirement/moving on of the experienced Gav Woods, Jordan Widdrington and James Kimber, Lymm’s players, to a man, have their sights set on a higher league finish, building on the experience gained last time out. What will, of course, give us that extra edge will be a continuation of the fantastic home support we enjoyed throughout the 2023/24 season!!
From a spectator’s perspective, the rugby on show last season was exceptional, the matches exciting and the results often in doubt until the final knockings. I expect this season will be more of the same albeit, hopefully, with more of the close results going in Lymm’s favour!
Once again, we have narrowly avoided the “poisoned chalice” of allocation to the West League, a fate which has befallen Macclesfield. I think no one can understand the rationale for this and everyone at Lymm is hugely sympathetic for the challenge that Macc will undoubtedly face this season as a result – hardly a reward for a hard-won promotion!
The 1st XV start their campaign away to Hull Ionians on Saturday 7th September KO 3pm.
Anyone planning to travel to the game should be aware that the M62 is going to be closed near Rochdale from Friday night until Sunday night with diversions in place. So leave plenty of time.
Other fixtures to kick of the season this weekend are:
2nd XV away to Caldy KO 3pm in the NOWIRUL Bathtime Premier League
Lymm Eagles at home to Moore KO 2:15pm in the NOWIRUL EDS Hygiene Specialists Division 3 South League
Senior Colts at home to Knutsford Sunday 8th KO 2pm in the Halbro NW Senior Colts League A
Junior Colts away to Stockport Sunday 8th KO 12:30pm in the Halbro NW Junior Colts League A
As always your support at any of the games is hugely appreciated.
One final note. Many of you will have downloaded and used the ClubHubz app on your phones for the last couple of seasons to keep upto date with club news and results etc. Unfortunately due to funding issues the people behind the application have had to ‘pull the plug’, so the application will no longer function or therefore be used. As a result we are currently reviewing alternatives and will keep you posted.
However, visitors to the club website will notice a new look to the Home Page. News items and Events have now been seperated into their own sections to improve visibility, particularly for Events.
To accompany this we go live this weekend with online Event Ticketing allowing users to book / buy tickets online for events (including pre-match luncheons, Panto etc), matchday entry tickets, season tickets etc. Access to the functionality can be achieved either by;
- Opening (clicking) on an event on the Home Page
- Opening (clicking) on an event in the Club Diary on the main menu
- Opening (clicking) the main menu item ‘Event Ticketing’
