Lymm Under 14’s in exciting draw under the lights

Author: Simon Plumb

Lymm entertained West Park under lights on the evening of Friday 13th December at Beechwood in front of a good crowd who made use of the open Halfway House!

Lymm kicked off and soon gained the advantage, moving the ball around at pace, similar to the first team, creating space and opportunities. It was no surprise that Lymm raced into a 17-0 lead as West Park struggled to defend against a free-flowing attack.

However as the game progressed  West Park began to adapt to the pace of the game and their defence, which was excellent throughout, began to thwart Lymm’s efforts. This allowed their attack to enter the game and good support and strong running pegged Lymm back as they led 22-17 with ten minutes to play.

At this stage Lymm started to apply the pressure and good attacking play finally broke the West Park defence and two tries in quick succession placed them back in the lead 27-22 with only a minute to go.

Could Lymm hold out or were West Park going to cross the line? Sadly for Lymm, the West Park side showed great determination and a run across the face of the posts resulted in unconverted try and 27-27 draw.

It was an exciting game played by two good sides who showed great commitment and skill, which is a credit to both sets of coaches. Friday rugby is a great night out with Club House busy afterwards with parents and players enjoying the after match activities!!!

Also the Under 14’s have been drawn in the second round of the Cheshire Cup against Stockport and the match will be played in the New year.
