Dear Members,
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have to advise you of the untimely passing of Mick Garlick in the early hours of Sunday morning 28th August 2022. Mick was a larger-than-life character in all aspects of his life and was a key part of our senior squad coaching team in the early 90’s. Mick was totally committed to supporting players at all levels throughout the club and brought a military style approach to the fitness aspects of his coaching regime – “commando crawling the length of the pitch” to improve upper body strength, was just one of his preferred training methods!!
During his time with the coaching team our 1st Team excelled in the league structure in place at the time and I have many fantastic memories of his exploits both on and off the pitch.
Mick was an accomplished sportsman and a keen Cricketer, Footballer and Rugby Player. He will be remembered for his Rugby achievements at Stockton, Warrington and Lymm rugby clubs in the UK, as well as on many rugby pitches across Europe during his time as a teacher and youth development officer in the British Army of the Rhine Youth Service, where he played for several army teams.
On a personal note, my family and I have lost a special friend who has played an important part in our lives since we met him in 1992 when I returned to play 1st Team Rugby at Lymm. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Nef, his sons Nick and Matthew and his grandchildren, Alice, Claudia and James at this very sad time.
Rest in Peace old friend, you will be sorely missed!!
John Cartwright
