A very warm Welcome to our ‘newfound’ friends from York, as it has been a while since we last played each other. The last few weeks have seen some horrendous weather that has tested the hardiest of spectators and not helped the rugby on show. So today I hope for better weather and improved fortunes with some Lymm play filled with sunshine!
The trip to Blackburn last week saw the worst playing conditions of the season with freezing rain and a howling gale, particularly in the first half when we were playing into it, that made rugby incredibly difficult. Forced changes both before and during the game due to injury, did not help our cause and when ‘Oli’ was forced to make an impromptu performance at fly half I knew we were up against it! However, Lymm stuck to the task and came away with a well-earned losing bonus point despite being up against the resolute defence of a very good side.
York come to Lymm suitably rested after Northwich who, for whatever reason, decided not to travel for last weekend’s fixture. This meant the home team’s players were able to join a 100 or so supporters and sponsors for the club’s ‘pre-match’ Christmas lunch whilst collecting maximum league points which puts York 5 points ahead and four places above us in the table. However, I remain confident that today we will see a close game and feel home advantage should just about give Lymm enough to secure the win if we can keep our discipline and the penalty count down.
The Panto season enters its final phase this weekend and for those of you who have not seen it, you have missed a ‘cracker’. It has taken me all week to stop singing ‘magic moments’; for me the best one liner in many a year (Oh Yes, it is!). A huge thank you to all the cast, musicians, and backstage workers for all their efforts.
Here’s looking forward to a great game.
