Saturday 24th February – 1st XV Travel to Hull Ionians

On Saturday, Lymm travel once more over the Pennines for what is believed to be a first visit to Brantingham Park, the home of Hull Ionians.

Whilst there have been 3 previous encounters between the two clubs – back in 1994 and 2000, and then in November last year – these fixtures have all been played at Beechwood. It is believed that Lymm did visit one of Ionians predecessor clubs, Hull & East Riding way back in the mid-80s, which fading memories believe was played at another venue, located more in the centre of Hull and in the middle of a speedway track….

We’re certainly looking forward to a visit to Brantingham Park (which looks really delightful on Google Maps!) and enjoying a warm welcome from the Ionians folk.

As to the match…who knows. Clearly, both teams would really welcome a win as they both strive to move up the table and away from any danger of relegation; and if the reverse fixture earlier this season (which Lymm won by the odd point in 61) is any gauge, it will certainly be a cracker of a nail-biter.
