Success breeding success at Lymm Rugby Club

This season, and the last few weeks in particular, has been a great period for Lymm Rugby Club as success seems to be breeding success.

Not only has the first team reached the top of their Regional 1 North West league, playing at Level 5 and pushing for promotion, but they have been awarded Team of the Month by the RFU out of 72 English clubs at this level, and former Mini & Junior and Colts player Alex Mitchell gained his second England cap at Twickenham against Italy.

Mitchell, who now plays professionally at Northampton Saints, was personally congratulated by Lymm President Neil Kelly, wishing him well for the remaining Six Nations and the forthcoming Rugby World Cup.

In return, Alex wrote back saying, ‘Saw Lymm are top and won team of the month. Great to see you guys doing so well.’

‘We take great pride in Alex’s ongoing success,’ commented President Neil Kelly. ‘He’s very much in touch with his old mates back at Lymm and we are excited for him as his international career moves forward. Let’s hope he features in the Rugby World Cup later this year,’ he added.

Lymm’s Mini & Junior section and Colts Academy are proving to be crucial to both the development of players and the recent success of the club, along with some top class coaching.

‘Lymm’s current first team squad consists of 27 players out of 39 (70%), who have come through the M&J and Colts Academy. We do not pay our players so feel it is important for them to want to play here, with their mates, and enjoy this grass roots, family-oriented community club,’ explained Neil Kelly.

‘Clearly Alex Mitchell, playing for England, is a great example of what can be achieved but success can be measured in so many different ways. For us the important thing is that our players enjoy growing up and playing here, in a safe, nurturing and fun environment. The success of our teams is built on firm foundations and long may it continue’, concluded Neil.
