05/03/20 | 1st Team
Today we welcome the players and supporters from Ilkley to Beechwood. So far they have only recorded two wins this season and sadly face relegation to Level 6 next season. We have always enjoyed the hospitality at Ilkley and wish them well and to make a speedy return to Level 5.
Lymm took the points at Ilkley in November with a comfortable win 15 – 30. But our visitors have been a bit of a bogey team for Lymm, winning home and away in the two previous seasons. Last Saturday, Lymm travelled to 13th placed Morpeth and came away 2nd best. Needless to say, Lymm will not be taking anything for granted and look to consolidate their mid table, 7th position.
There is only 4pts difference between the top 5 clubs, so wins with bonus points look to be critical. Lymm could have some influence on this with home fixtures against Harrogate and Macclesfield. In the mid table, two of today’s fixtures are of interest to Lymm. Kirkby Lonsdale, who are in 8th place, travel to play 9th placed Rossendale. A home win would suit us. 6th placed Blackburn are at home to 3rd placed promotion candidates Sandal. An away win would suit us to give us an outside chance of finishing 6th in the league. Having said that, we have to play away against both KL and Blackburn. So, after today there are only 5 more 1st team games left this season, 3 away and 2 at home.
