Both sides entered this game with a win and a loss from their first two games of the new season, thus knowing that a win would catapult them up the league table. The opening to the game – played on a good dry pitch and with no wind to speak of, saw an initial mistake at the kick-off by Wirral, which handed early possession to Lymm. This possession was rewarded when after only three minutes, Lymm were awarded a penalty, which the goal-kicking hero of the previous week, Cormac Nolan, was able to strike over from 30m out. 0 – 3.
